I am an Associate Professor of International Studies at the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, Indiana University-Bloomington. I am also nonresident senior advisor (and former distinguished visiting fellow) at the Perry World House, University of Pennsylvania. In fall 2024 I was the Zahedi Family Fellow at the Program in Iranian Studies at Stanford University.

My areas of research are in international relations and political theory, with particular focus on topics in liberalism, democratic theory, modern Iranian politics, US-Iran relations, and international order. I am the co-editor of International Studies Review, the flagship review journal of the International Studies Association.

I am also passionate about gardening and landscape design. I combine my thoughts on politics, culture, international affairs, and gardening in the weekly newsletter Hedge of State.
